One of the best resources for anyone infected with HIV or AIDS is their family physician or team of physicians. It invaluable to find a doctor you feel comfortable with and who is able to help sort out a lot of the information you’ll be dealing with regarding treatment and medication. Another valuable resource is the internet. HIV and/or AIDS support groups play an important role in the lives of anyone suffering from this diagnosis. It’s not just the physical health that’s affected, but mental and emotional health, as well. Look for online HIV/AIDS support groups or chat groups. Many people feel comfortable with online groups more so than “real life” groups because you can protect your privacy, not have to leave your home or speak to anyone face to face. Using your favorite search engine, type in “HIV Support Groups.“ The best thing to do is to visit a few until you find one that feels most comfortable to you - then join. Also, many hospitals, especially in the larger cities, provide information to patients regarding therapy and/or support groups in their area. No one has to suffer alone…help is available.
